New periodic roadworthiness test in Germany:
Is your Filter Fit for it?
As of 1st of July, Germany introduced a new mandatory test as a part of its periodic roadworthiness inspections. Up until now, diesel vehicle emissions were subject only to a so-called Particle Matter (PM) test: A basic measurement of the emitted particulate matter, based on the total weight of the coarsest particles collected, indicating major defects in the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which in severe conditions will result in visible black smoke from the tailpipe.
But with the new rules, vehicles will also be subject to a Particle Number (PN) test, in which advanced devices are used to count the quantity of even microscopic particles, often not visible to the human eye. This will reveal even the tiniest cracks and defects in the DPF which leads to excessive emissions of the most dangerous ultrafine particles.
Will your filter pass the next inspection?
